Members of the Bay Area Funeral Society can choose from these discounted funeral packages:

1. DIRECT CREMATION

This package includes:

• Basic services of the funeral director and staff
• Removal of remains
• An alternative container for cremation. Usually made of cardboard or fiberboard
• Local transportation to a crematory
• Return of cremated remains to the mortuary for disposition

Survivors can pick up cremated remains at mortuaries for free. California law now allows ash scattering over land with the owner's permission.

2. IMMEDIATE BURIAL

This package includes:

• Basic services of the funeral director and staff
• Removal of remains
• A simple casket
• Local transportation to a cemetery

Cemetery charges are not included. For a plot in the bay area, expect a minimum cost of $1500. Fees for a marker, liner or vault, perpetual care, as well as opening and closing the grave mount to well over $1000.

3. SIMPLE FUNERAL

This package includes:

• Immediate Burial
• A modest funeral service. A graveside service is an affordable choice

Excluding cemetery charges, costs range from $1100 to $1400.
